Lapped Flange

This type of flange is made to saddle over stub end fitting for rotation. The pair are an excellent choice for situations which require a constant removal and re-installation in order to inspect the connection. This combination allows for the rotation of the lap joint over the stub end for accurate bolting.

Lap joint flanges are usually used in low pressure applications and are not suitable when there are high loads on the flange pair. Some types of piping require the use of lap joint flanges. For example, metallic pipe that has been plastic lining may have lap joint flanges. The main advantage of this type of flange is that the bolt holes can be aligned with the matching flange after the welds have been completed. A Lap Joint Flange is not suitable for areas with high external or dynamic loads. A Swivel Ring Flange should be used for this type of application.
